It's a New Year and Genius Has Come to Broadway
By Jonathan Jones
Thursday, January 5, 2012
Tonight was the opening preview of Lynne Meadow's Pulitzer Prize winning Wit on Broadway, and the masterful production is nothing short of brilliant. Cynthia Nixon is incredible always, so there was no surprise in her performance per se, however, paired with this stunning drama, this production is transcendent. Loved the acting. Loved the set. Loved the simplicity. Loved everything.
Having spend a short amount of time in hospital last year, I know from first hand experience just how trivial the role of doctors can be compared to the ceaseless work of nurses (we would not survive without them), and the genius of Ms. Meadow's writing is not just how well she recreated the experience of a terminal cancer patient, she also captures a critical view of the way research impedes the humanity of cancer treatment. Suzanne Somers would be proud, and as I worship at her alter, I now to worship at Ms. Meadow's as well. RUN to the Manahttan Theatre Club and see this show!
